“What kind of reality mimics fictional creations?” Tengo asks himself, referencing his own writing.
~ Haruki Murakami, 1Q84

Air Chrysalis is the title of a fictional book within the novel 1Q84 by HAruki Murakami and describes a 10 year old girl being taught by a group of “Little People” how to pull threads of light out of the air and weave them together. Over the course of ten nights, while locked in a one-room building, she creates a chrysalis about the size of herself. The function of the chrysalis and the intentions of the Little People are unclear, but what continues to intrigue me, is how the reality of the story of Air Chrysalis bleeds into the reality of the novel's characters.

Like the story of the same name, my Air Chrysalis has uncertain relationship with fiction and reality. I'm not sure if I can build an air chrysalis, and I'm not sure what would happen if I did, but I do have an idea about how to go about it, and for me it is too tempting not to try. If you feel the same way you can come watch my attempt or sit with me, and I will show you how to weave threads of energy together.
